There are many bridges and waterways to see and travel over. There are many inclines and obstacles along the way that make for a challenging dynamic in some parts of the trail. The trails can be rocky, tree lined, sandy, and many other terrains. In all, there are over ten miles of hiking and biking trails on the west side of Lake Murray. in the winter and there is no charge for entry.There are many offshoot sections of the main trails including Lake Shore Trail and Beaver Trail which take you closer to the lakes edge with great views of the lake. Reach one from 1700 East and the other from 1300 East. A family favorite, there are two main sledding hills. Sugarhouse Park boasts 110 acres within the Sugarhouse neighborhood of Salt Lake City. Alongside the call of winter birds, you’ll hear the delighted squeals of children descending the open hill. On any given winter day the hills in Sugarhouse Park are dotted with colored parkas and equally bright sleds. There is no entrance fee, but bring your own tube and thermos of hot cocoa. Families with small children enjoy the mellow sides of the bowl. The bowl shaped space provides different levels of steepness with a long runout at the bottom for slowing down. Steep hills and lots of space attract winter thrill seekers from all over Utah County as soon as the snow dumps. Rock Canyon Park sits at the base of the Wasatch Range in Provo.
Throw on the parka, grab a sled, and start hiking up that hill - winter thrills await at no cost. North of the University of Utah and east of the Avenues, Popperton Park is open from dusk until dawn for public use. Flat Iron Mesa Park sports a great view of the mountains, and at 31.8 acres it is the largest developed park in the Sandy. Steep enough to get a good run, it boasts a long runway at the bottom for slowing down safely. Named for the large flat area on the top of a big hill, it becomes the perfect sledding locale after a winter storm. While the facility is officially closed for the winter and no services are available, it is available for public access. Nestled in an upper east side Bountiful neighborhood in Davis County, this tubing hill is easy to get to, parking abounds and there’s lots of room to spread out. In the winter this golf course transitions to a neighborhood sledding mecca. Tickets range from $20-$60, book online for the best prices. Located at the site of the former Gorgoza Park, Woodward Park City is just 30 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. Two-hour slots start at the top of every hour, and with a cafe and cafeteria on site you can grab some TexMex, a pizza, or maybe a plate of nachos after your ride. With seven lanes at 1,200 feet long, there’s room for the whole family. Woodward Park Cityĭuring winter months this world-class action sports facility offers up the Tubing Park, home to some of Utah’s longest tubing lanes. Prices include a lift ticket for the tow lift and tube rental.
Prices are $8 for a single ride, $20 for two hours and $30 for four hours. Two lanes allow for racing and riding next to friends. Rumor has it this is the steepest and fastest tubing hill in the state. Rather than straight lanes, this tubing park has bobsled turns, so your descent is complete with corners and side rides. Grab your snow boots, parka and camera and head to Wasatch Parc Snow Tubing at Nordic Valley in Eden for American tubing with a French twist.
Online ticket reservations are highly recommended. Prices range from $12-$30 depending upon when you go. For fun you may even want to hop on the Heber Valley Railroad to get there. Try out this Olympic venue and enjoy tunes thanks to the Soldier Hollow sound system, and night tubing thanks to stadium lights.
The venue offers extra support to persons with disabilities, including a transition area from wheelchair to tubing lanes. The tubing hill sports 1,200 foot tubing lanes for cool thrills and a magic carpet for easy transport. Soldier Hollow Nordic Center, part of Wasatch Mountain State Park and a major venue in the 2002 Winter Olympics, is home to the Toyota Tubing Hill. The Grand Lodge at the base of the hill offers snacks and a fireplace for winter warming. Hosting one large tubing run, or two in the years they split it, this 500-foot long run costs only $11 for a three-hour block. Located just 15 miles north of Logan (near the Idaho border), Cherry Peak Resort is a family-owned, nearly 400-acre ski area that offers some of the most affordable tubing in Utah.
